brewer wins beer prize Several other Southern Colorado microbrewers and wineries
win trophies at the Fair A Pueblo microbrewery took a first-place
prize at the Colorado State Fair this year while a Canon City winery walked away
with four first-place ribbons in commercial wine judging and several other awards. In
the microbrew competition held the first day of the 2006 Fair, Pueblo's Shamrock
Brewing Co. won first place for its Shamrock Scotch in the Scottish Ale division.
The Shamrock Brewing Co. is located in the former home of the Irish Pub Downtown
and continues to operate the microbrewery set up by the Pub's former owner. The
Pueblo microbrewery also won second place for its Shamrock White in the Other
Belgian Ale category. In the commercial wine competition, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey
in Canon City received first place for its Cabernet Franc, Syrah, White Merlot
Vineyard Sunset and Merlot Port. The Abbey also received a second-place
ribbon for its American Riesling and third-place awards for its Sauvignon Blanc,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Merlot and Colorado Nouveau. ------------ BEST
